[Music] hi I'm Dr chinu ji I'm a consultant medical and hemoncologist at manipal hospitals Bangalore today I'll be talking about breast cancer its burden in our country and how to detect it at an early stage so according to the recent globocan data breast cancer is the second most common cancer in the world in the sense that one in 12 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime unfortunately this incidence is on the increasing Trend especially in younger women so when we compare the biology of breast cancer in younger and older women in younger women it tends to be a more aggressive type of disease it is diagnosed at an advanced stage and it usually doesn't Express the hormonal receptor markers and other targetable mutation markers this makes it typically what we call as a triple negative breast cancer which is the most aggressive type of breast cancer that we know first of all awareness is the key to deal with this problem and second of all detecting it at the earliest of the earliest stag is very important to ensure a cure for this deadly disease first is Breast Awareness what is Breast Awareness it is familiarizing yourself with the feel of your own breast how how can you achieve it it can be achieved by performing breast self- examination very regularly who should be doing it any woman 25 years or more of age should do a regular breast examination how often should you do it it should be done every month one time every month you fix a day and do it ideally it should be done one week after the end of your periods so what is the purpose of doing a breast self- examination it will help you get the feel of your own breast and when you repeatedly do it every every month what happens is that you will be able to notice the smallest and the most subtle changes in your breast which will help you to guide to your physician for further evaluation then the second step in detecting an breast cancer at an early stage is a screening mamogram ideally any women at the age of 40 years or more should do a screening mamogram every year along with that they should get their breast examined by an experienced physician so doing by these two small things we can detect our breast cancer incidences at a very early stage and please do remember that breast cancer at an early stage is definitely curable thank you [Music]
