Eight year old Shafnan from Bangladesh came to us with the complaints of decreased  hearing and delay in speech development He had already used hearing aid for
a while, but without much benefit So we did evaluation for his hearing and he was found  to be having profound hearing loss in both his ears. Now the only option left for him was cochlear implantation surgery  That is, we insert an electrode into the cochlea from where the nerve of hearing would be stimulated as the child has already crossed the age of neuroplasticity, that is, the ability of the brain to learn speech. We had to explain to the parents and we counseled them regarding the prognosis for speech perception and speech development And he would need intensive therapy sessions maybe two years or even more, but he would definitely benefit with sound awareness Parents then finally decided to go ahead with 
the surgery and the surgery was done Surgery went well and after the electrode insertion we checked for the responses and we got very good responses in all the electrodes Two weeks post surgery, Switch on was done and he responded very well  He'll be taking few sessions for therapy at our center, following which he'll be continuing therapy at his hometown, that is Bangladesh Our team members will be in constant touch with the child and the family members and will be monitoring his progress  We wish Shafnan all the very best for his future Thank you.
