[Music] Mr AC m matad is a 58-year old man who hails from North Karnataka so he was suffering from Parkinson's disease for close to 7 to 8 years and uh with medication he had reached a state where he had a lot of side effects in fact he was uh so disabled that he could not wake up in the morning and uh walk without his first dose of medication Mr matad then met our neurologist who advised him deep brain stimulation surgery de brain stimulation gives very good results with patients with motor fluctuations uh stiffness and slowness of symptoms and our patient today is able to perform all these activities without his morning dose of medication we've also reduced his medications by more than half and hence the side effect of medications can be safely elev deep brain stimulation today is a very safe treatment uh normally the patient spends around uh 3 to 5 days in the hospital uh one part of the procedure is done under local anesthesia when the patient is completely awake and we monitor the movements of the patients and look for improvement immediately the second part which is implantation of the pacemaker is done under general anesthesia and the patient is immediately shifted back to the ward on the first day anyone with Parkinson's disease for more than than 3 to 5 years on medication should discuss the option of deep brain stimulation with their neurologist or movement disorder specialist [Music]
