Doctor explains Who has a More Active Sex Drive - Men vs. Women?

a lot of people complain that it's often the women who have low desire but i see people of both sexes who complain of low desire so let's do some deep diving into what we know about low desire and particularly in couples so this study was published in 2007 it surveyed 200 people and asked them about their sexual practices how often did they masturbate how often did they watch pornography how many partners did they have and they divide them up into three groups one group was going through what's called a bogus pipeline a bogus pipeline is essentially where a participant in a study is set up to a lie detector test they're told that they are going to be connected to this however it's never really turned on the other group was told that it was going to be completely anonymous and no one was going to see their results the third group was told that their results would be seen by other research assistants who were their peers this was in a college setting so the research assistants were people who actually went to school with them or worked alongside them so when women and men thought that their responses were going to be seen by the research assistants there was a much bigger difference in their responses women were much less likely to admit to consuming pornography masturbation having multiple partners however when you went to look at the lie detector test and the anonymous arm they were much more similar in rates so this would suggest that women have as much interest in at least self-sexual stimulation and sex with a partner as their male counterparts so low libido or low sex drive is really defined by you so if you're having less interest or desire insects that's causing a personal problem or distress so you're bothered by it or your partner's bothered by it that's what a low sex drive or low libido is and so in women we see the rates of this are usually around 1 in 10 so 10 in men the rate is slightly lower 1 in 20. they looked at studies where they study couples and they study them essentially to look at their rates of desire and mismatch desire in the couple and in fact both female partners and male partners were equally likely to have low desire so let's talk about causes of low desire in both men and women for both men and women stress is a huge libido killer so stress can not only make you exhausted and less likely interested in having sex but it also changes your brain chemistry can change the amount of hormones that are in your brain that make it more difficult to get interested or aroused with sexual imagery or physical touch or other things like that that normally would arouse you number two that affects both participants is depression or anxiety so any sort of real psychological problem that is causing distress in your life is gonna have huge implications for your sex life i've previously dived deep in this uh before on another video about psychogenic erectile dysfunction so make sure if you are suffering from depression or anxiety get seen by a psychiatrist or a psychologist to get help either behavioral or medical help that will help you deal with those issues that you're having also in both group medications can be an issue check out my videos on antidepressants with side effects and prostate medications with side effects all of those have sexual side effects and there's a whole host of other medications that can also cause sexual side effects some medications that are used for blood pressure can also cause issues in the bedroom the number one thing in men that can cause a loss of libido is low testosterone testosterone is the main sex hormone that's produced by the testicles that creates a lot of important physiologic measures in your body if you want to learn more about testosterone i made several videos about testosterone but ultimately it is very very important for not only libido but gaining muscle mass and perhaps even with cardiovascular diseases so if you feel like you are suffering for low libido and you are a man please go see your primary care doctor and get your testosterone checked early in the morning to make sure and find out if you are within the normal range there are testosterone replacement treatments including testosterone that's injectable or that can be used transdermal which is either a patch or a gel and there's also not natural ways to boost your testosterone which i've talked about in my video previously before and other things that can affect your testosterone can also cause low libido things like diabetes smoking heart disease all those things can affect your testosterone your blood hormone levels and can then subsequently cause low libido and lastly obstructive sleep apnea or sleep issues can cause a decline in testosterone so if you find that you're waking up periodically through the night and having trouble falling back asleep or your partner says it sounds like you're gasping for air then you may have obstructive sleep apnea you should definitely go see your doctor and get it checked out and get a sleep study because getting a sleep machine or a cpap machine can really help improve those symptoms all right hope you
