[Music] Hello friends I'm Dr anab GTI consultant Orthopedics joint replacement and arthoscopic surgeon uh in our series on meniscus teers and its management uh I'll be talking about few common scenarios uh the first uh question question usually asked is what is a meniscus tier and how does it happen to understand this I'll briefly show you uh what is a miniscus on the model of the knee so meniscus are two semicircular cartilages uh these are uh uh questioning structures which are present inside the knee joint uh the one on the outside is called the lateral meniscus and the one on inside is called the medial meniscus their function is to avoid uh contact pressure between the femur bone and the tibia bone so that uh the cartilage of the bone ends does not uh degenerate fast so uh these tears usually happen when there is a twisting injury to the knee and uh which is commonly seen in sports uh injuries or uh sometimes in our day-to-day life when someone slips on a wet floor and they rotate their knee and there is a turning injury uh pattern which happens to these uh cartilages uh the tiers can range from uh minor tiers to severe tiers these tiers are uh uh uh term based on their location or their orientation uh they can be horizontal tiers or vertical tiers based on the orientation in which they happen or they can also be termed based on uh the anatomical location of these tiers which can happen in the interior horn which is the front part of the meniscus the side the middle part which is the body of the meniscus or the posterior part which is the posterior horn and the root of the meniscus [Music]
