Hello friends I want to deunk some myths about Childhood Cancer some people feel that Childhood Cancer is not curable not all types of cancer are curable I quite don't agree with that as a pediatric oncologist I can tell you that all types of childhood cancers are curable because there are many Advanced treatments available for this children the second myth is that parents feel that the children are too weak can feeble to tolerate chemotherapy which is again not true and that is because children unlike adults don't realize what they are going through so there is no mental involvement of the children and they are not affected mentally by what they are going to go through secondly the rate of metabolism being much faster than adults they can metabolize the chemo drugs much faster and the third thing is that these children don't have comorbidities like diabetes and hypertension some parents feel that there will be a tremendous hair loss and the child will become bald not really the child will become bald but will regain the hair 6 months after the chemotherapy is over so nothing to worry the child will have his hair back much better than what he had and the second thing is that the child the parents feel that over time he cannot be integrated into society and live normal lives no they do once their chemotherapy is over they need a followup for 5 months after they treatment completion to see whether child is relapsing or not and once 5 years are over then you close this chapter and go back to normal routine lives when a child is diagnosed with cancer the family feels that it is a social stigma and they don't want to share it with the neighbors or with the people around which I don't think should be done because a child is a warrior and he needs to be appreciated for what he is going through and it's no social stigma to be hidden from the society and the second myth is that it is inherited not all childhood cancers are inherited there are certain genetic predisposition syndroms but not all of them thank you
