Hope for a Cure: International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 2024

[Music] Hello friends my name is Dr Sunil B I'm the director head of perodic chatology oncology and Bone transplantation at the Nar Bangalore September every year is observed as a Childhood Cancer Awareness Month what we do during this month is we want to spread awareness and call for Action to fight cancer in children every year around 400,000 children are diagnosed with cancer globally and out of which there's estimation that around 50 to 60,000 children are diagnosed in India alone now with advanced in treatment awareness The Cure rates of cancer in children has dramatically improved but there's a huge gap between the high income and the low and middle- income countries The Cure rates in childood cancer have approached 80 to 85% in high income countries while it can be as low as 20% in some of the low-income countries and India we sit somewhere around 40 to 50% so there's still a huge gap between the diagnosis and the Curative options which are available for the children depending on where they're born and where they are taken care of now dur this awareness month which is September of every year as I said earlier on we need to spread awareness about few things one is that we need to educate the families the teachers parents about the early warning signs which can elute a diagnosis of Childhood Cancer if your child is having lumps and bumps in the body persistent undiagnosed fever bruising on the body headaches especially in the morning headaches vomitings without reason or there's a squint um um difficult you know defective Vision any of these things if are there you please consult your pediatrician these can be signs and symptoms of cancer and if detected early of course as I said earlier we can cure most of these conditions we also want to spread awareness within the healthcare workers and the Physicians who looking after the children that childh cancer diagnosis is not a death warrant if diagnosed and treated appropriately these children can be cured and they can be cured forever so I also urge my fraternity my brethren my my colleagues um who are the first point of contact ESP pediatricians for the children that cancer diagnosis will be um it can be cured and it can be treated if refered early so the the counseling of these children the families at the time of diagnosis essential for um for making the treatments happen and also complying with the treatment and reduce abandonment so as we observe um the cancer awareness month I urge each one of you to contribute in a small way which can be done either by spreading awareness about childhood cancers supporting these families in whatever ways you can it can be as simple as wearing a a yellow ribbon which is a sign of childhood Cancers and spread the word that childood cancers are real they are highly curable if detected early and with this we want to you know kind of um you know fulfill a goal or have aspiration that no Childhood cancer patient should be left untreated and every child has got a you know um has got right to live and this can be only possible if we identify them early treat them and support the children and families during the difficult times thank you very much [Music]
