How Mutual Masturbation Can Improve Your Sex Life, Explained By a Urologist

have you ever masturbated with someone I'm Dr Rena Malik urologist and pelvic surgeon and today we're going to talk about how mutual masturbation might actually benefit your sexual relationship and a little bit about who does it and why so what is mutual masturbation mutual masturbation is about involving your partner or Partners during self-stimulation now this can happen before during after or even independent of other sexual activities but here's the interesting part it can actually serve to enhance your sexual repertoire we know that people who have a more diverse sexual repertoire meaning that they incorporate lots of different activities in their sex life tend to experience higher sexual satisfaction more intense arousals and increased arousal particularly in women in the case of mutual masturbation it allows people to have sort of a visual Playbook of what gives their partner pleasure it opens up lines of communication so you can talk about what you like what you don't like and what you need to reach climax I've previously talked about the orgasm Gap and essentially women tend to have orgasms less often than men particularly during penetrative intercourse but when you include mutual masturbation that Gap essentially disappears and everyone orgasms everyone is satisfied and everyone achieves pleasure Studies have found that women who engage in mutual masturbation do it because they want to connect with their Partners on a deeper level they want to boost intimacy or even just fulfill their partner's desires and obviously sometimes people do it because they want to guarantee their own pleasure during partnered sex however despite this there's been very little research on mutual masturbation what we do know is that it's more common in younger adults between the ages of 25 and 49 and those who have a partner because of this limited research a group of researchers decided to look at people's experiences with mutual masturbation and how it affected their status faction as well as their self-esteem so they recruit a diverse group of participants and ask them budget survey questions about masturbation both mutual and solo their self-esteem and their satisfaction so they recruited 268 participants that were ranging anywhere from 18 to 65 years old but were average 29 years of age two-thirds lived with their partner and most people a little bit over half were in a relationship for between one and five years sixty percent were in a relationship but not married and most reported having completed some sort of College University or postgraduate degree and most of the participants were white so in the study they defined mutual masturbation as having a partner involved or having the partner's presence during self-stimulation so when they looked at this about 48 of men and 54 of women had reported being involved in mutual masturbate within the past two weeks now that's almost half men reported that generally they felt more positive compared to the women participants about mutual masturbation but negative feelings were really rare they were mostly positive only 12 people of the entire group felt that it was sort of strange and nine felt like they were a little tense before going ahead with mutual masturbation now this is the kicker when they controlled for other factors like if they had solo masturbation recently how recently they participated in mutual masturbation their age their relationship status if they lived with their partner if they had an illness or disability or if they had children so all of these things can affect a person's satisfaction with sex but they found that out of all of these things recently mutually masturbating was independently associated with a higher sexual satisfaction so let me say that again if they masturbated with their partner in the last last two weeks they were more likely to have a higher satisfaction with their sex life so what does all this even mean well first off it's clear that mutual masturbation is more common than you might think with more than half of men and women reporting recently engaging in it and people tend to generally have positive feelings about it and when it comes to sexual satisfaction recent masturbation with a partner was linked to higher levels of satisfaction it might even be like a secret sauce for a happier sex life but it's not just the act itself it's probably a combination of being comfortable doing the act because you communicate with your partner and you're more open with them and you have a better relationship with them now there's some limitations with this right this study was particularly done in mostly young educated and you know white individuals so we can't necessarily generalize these findings to everyone but I would say that the things we do know are that mutual masturbation can be educational and can help achieve sexual satisfaction it can help you as an individual learn more about your partner's pleasure zones and what really gets them to Climax and this may overall contribute to building more satisfying and pleasurable relationships thank you guys
