[Music] I'm Dr Nita shetti I'm the director of the IVF unit in manipal hospital Mya I'm also the president of the Karnataka chapter of Indian Society of assisted reproduction IVF is a assisted reproductive technique wherein eggs are collected from the woman fertilized with the sperm outside the body the resulting embryo is then transferred into the uterus the first IVF baby was born on 25th July 197 8 since then millions and millions of babies have been born and IVF has helped a lot of couples who have difficulty in conceiving so who needs IVF the first IVF was done for blocked fallopian tubes in 1978 since then the indications have increased men with very low sperm count who have difficulty in conceiving naturally do benefit there are women with very less eggs like an advanced maternal age IVF is very helpful here and there is a group of patients where the egg is normal sperms are normal tubes are also normal we call them as unexplained infertility these patients also benefit from IVF and the simpler treatment doesn't work IVF is a boon and it is here to stay [Music]
