My Body Transformation For My Boxing Pro Debut

foreign [Music] people think you're crazy for wanting to turn pro even though you're a doctor absolutely [Music] I'm trying to do what Jake Paul did but do it even faster my second fight here is against a veteran fighter this is not a retired fighter in his 40s he's younger than me he's three years younger than me never been knocked out 20 plus fights I have won and I'm ready for Chris Seville and anything he can throw my way I'm making my pro boxing debut but not before losing 20 pounds going from this to this I'm literally going to show you the ins and outs of how I lost this weight in a healthy way as a doctor let's get started people [Music] foreign to set the stage for those who are catching up I had my first exhibition bout against Ian AKA idubbbz in May of this year a few months ago that went extremely well Creator Clash was a super successful event raised 1.3 million for charity but that was a very successful fight for me [Applause] Chris I'll start with you you've been in the fight game a long time you know the old saying you can play football you can play basketball you can play baseball but you cannot play boxing do you believe Dr Mike is playing a dangerous game on October 29th I believe he is I have gotten myself into the professional fight game against Chris Avila this is a Combat Sports veteran 20 plus fights never been knocked out this guy is gonna bring the heat what's incredible to me is that this fight is gonna be on Showtime pay-per-view I mean this is the Marquee boxing platform home of championship boxing and I get the opportunity to participate I realize how lucky I am I realize how privileged I am most Fighters work their lives for an opportunity like this and I got it after one exhibition fight simply because I have a following I don't deny any of that but what I will say strongly is that I'm working my tail off to take advantage of this opportunity I'm training six days a week twice a day I'm losing 20 plus pounds which folks I'll tell you is no joke and I'm gonna tell you exactly how I made this weight loss happen in a healthy way let's start with my boxing training training takes place five times a week this means every morning I'm getting together with Thomas and working on several parts of the boxing craft getting onto the heavy bag the uppercut bag working on Shadow Boxing and imagining that I'm actually fighting another fighter then I pair up with Thomas and we use mitts or pads in order for him to work combinations with me then we have alternative exercises like the speed bag or the double end bag but there's no boxing trading that's fully complete without some good old-fashioned jump rope and most importantly sparring that's where you get hurt that's where things go wrong and that's why you need to be really smart and trust your sparring partners next strength training because you know you gotta have that knockout power for my strength training I work with the folks over at boxing science they're evidence-based and they take a smart approach to getting me ready for the boxing match for boxing you have to think boxing Centric so instead of doing regular squats you're doing goblet squats instead of doing regular side to side motion you're doing speeds skaters I also really want to work my rotation muscles so I'm doing a lot of throws with the medicine ball rotation exercises using the cable rows something that the boxing signs folks also have me do that's quite smart is working isometric exercises where the length of the muscle does not change when you make use of isometric contractions you reduce the risk of injury but still get that muscle firing as well as priming that nerve to fire that muscle everything in boxing is core rotation defense that means planks that means sit-ups that means dead bugs and then you don't want a fatigue so you've got to have your conditioning on point conditioning conditioning conditioning you can't have a boxing training camp without conditioning but a lot of boxers make a mistake and just do these slow runs for two hours and well that's great to build up a cardiac base that's not going to get you high intensity ready for a real fight my conditioning routine changes depending on where in the training camp I am at the beginning we're doing longer intervals with decent break times then we're doing good intervals with slightly shorter break times and then we kick it into real high gear trying to mimic a real round so we're talking about 15 seconds on high intensity 15 seconds off 15 seconds on 15 seconds off for three minutes you do that you get a minute off the same exact thing that happens during a real fight but this time on the track conditioning isn't just sprints it's air bike full body exhaustion Max effort I'm tracking my heart rate with the Polar heart rate monitor here and my app to know exactly how many calories I'm burning how high my heart rate goes how long I'm staying in each range because it really does make a difference if you're going all out intensity every day of the week you will burn out so you got to keep it smart now let's talk nutrition nutrition is all about the ins and outs I'm exerting a lot of energy when you're talking two workouts a day my actively burn calories are in the two to three thousand range that means that if I consume 2500 calories in a day I'm still losing weight because my active burn rate is so high so this becomes a very thorough balancing game that I'm doing with the help of my nutritionist from boxing science Lee who basically helps guide me into eating enough food to replenish my carbs my proteins the body wear and breakdown that's happening in the midst of my sparring boxing strength days to the point where I continuously very slowly lose weight but at the same time I don't feel so tired that I can't perform my workouts to the best of my ability too many people think they can crash diet in these scenarios but I'll tell you why that's problematic first your workouts are going to suffer you're not going to be able to be as strong you're not going to be able to be a sharp second your sleep will suffer when you're taking such a strong toll on your body and then heavily calorie restricting yourself you don't get quality rest and the final one is that your cortisol hormone starts spiking this is a stress hormone that can actually increase belly fat and cause you to have improper sleep there's a lot of negative effect here when it's expanded into the long term a lot of people are wondering am I eating a very special diet not really I'm consuming around 23 2400 calories a day eating a lot of fish grilled chicken there is some red meat thrown in every now and then but I'm eating a lot of Aries a lot of vegetables my mornings are basically consisting of Greek yogurt little honey drizzled on berries in there it's actually quite a delicious meal and easy to eat at a time where I have a very low appetite but I have to eat quickly in order to prepare for my boxing session now before many of you knew I was a big fan of intermittent fasting this could be good for my weight loss Journey but it's not good for my boxing Journey because I gotta have fuel in the tank in order to perform during my boxing sessions so I do eat in the mornings when I am in training camp many of you know I'm not a huge fan of supplements but this is the Pro game and I gotta make sure I'm getting my protein in so I am incorporating protein shakes into my diet especially at the end of my strength workouts or conditioning workouts towards the end of the day there is creatine involved you know caffeine and creatine are probably the most and protein those are the three most well-researched supplements out there that do show a benefit for professional athletes most people are not professional athletes the amount of benefit that you've gained from supplements pales in comparison if you just focus on your consistency at the gym and with your diet [Music] the proceeds from this fight will be a hundred percent donated that I receive to the Harlem Boys and Girls Club you know for me coming as an immigrant to the United States my family needed a lot of help from welfare programs and being a practicing doctor I know that kids who are well socialized who are participating in sports programs they will Thrive so I give huge credit to the Boys and Girls Clubs especially the one here locally in New York City and Harlem and all of my paycheck entirely is going to them for someone to think about us to call us to reach out and to be so generous our organization really survives on donations and so for someone like him to take time out to want to donate to us I I'm just so grateful to him and of
