hello everyone I'm Dr nain Kumar LV I am a senior consultant in Orthopedics and Sports injuries at manipal hospital sjap road today we are going to talk about patella tendinopathy the knee pain which people often come to us with not every pain in the knee is arthritis people in their middle age between 30s and 40s and even 50s can be having pain in the front of the knee and present to us but this is commonly due to another condition which is called pillar tendinopathy as you all know we have got big muscles on the front of the thigh they come and attach to the knee cap bone which is called patila and from there we have got the tendon which goes and attaches to the leg bone so this particular tendon can get irritated or become stiff in lot of people and cause problems par tendon irritation is called pillar tendinopathy here we are talking about the musles of the thigh which come and ATT attached to the bone called Pilla from there we have got the muscle tendon which comes and attaches to the Bone further down so this tendon is called pillar tendon so uh when we walk when we run when we go up and down the stairs the kneecap has to Glide smoothly up and down if it is not free to Glide then the stress will increase in the par tendon causing micro TI or micro injuries that's what causes the pain in the particular tendon the reason why we get it is because a lot of us are sedentary nowadays where where we are doing underusing the things or we are overusing the things it can happen in Runners as well where we call it as runnner knee or it can also happen in people who are leading a sedentary life and suddenly when they get into more of active lifestyle so when we get this problem whenever we do activities or get up from the chair or go up and down the stairs you keep getting the pain in the front of the knee it's a very common problem and people often assume that this is arthritis however if with proper clinical examination we can differentiate between these things and if it is parellar tendinopathy treatments are very simple majority of people can get cured by just doing some simple exercise based treatments don't expect a tablet to cure you unfortunately there is no such tablet magical tablet with us to cure these kind of things but with simple stretching exercises with heat gel and then exercises you can cure it in a small percentage of people who don't get better with this I do something called plasma injection or p RP injection that will help in healing process for the tendon it's very rare that I go and do a surgery as well for these kind of things where we try to release the tendon and debride the tendon but most people get better with simpler things so if you get a knee pain especially if it is in the front of the knee don't get alarmed get it checked by a proper orthopedic surgeon who can then help you with the right kind of things for making it better [Music]
